PCR Test: Fast and Targeted Diagnosis
PCR tests allow to quickly and accurately identify the main ocular pathogens, providing an immediate and targeted response for effective treatment.
Main pathogens searched by the test
The test identifies with high sensitivity and specificity pathogens responsible for conjunctivitis, blepharitis, chalazia, dry eye, infectious keratitis, corneal abscesses and other ocular surface problems:
-
Bacteria:
such as Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus pneumoniae, responsible for ocular infections such as blepharitis, conjunctivitis and bacterial keratitis.
-
Viruses:
adenovirus and herpes simplex, frequent causes of ocular viral infections.
-
Fungi:
species such as Candida albicans and Fusarium that cause mycotic keratitis.
-
Protozoa / parasites:
Acanthamoeba, particularly dangerous for contact lens wearers, cause of Acanthamoeba keratitis, difficult to treat.
